by JS Moore
Understanding Apples is a collection of anecdotal short-stories about the Tri-Cities Region - notably the Long Island
community of Kingsport, Tennessee - once a rough and tumble locale
known for violence and bootlegging.
Gathering Leaves is a continuation of the first book and offers many more stories from the area as far as Tellico Plains, Cosby, Newport, Greeneville, Parrotsville, Jonesborough, Shady Valley, Erwin, Elizabethton, Rogersville, Surgoinsville, Johnson City, Hampton, Kingsport, Church Hill, Bristol, Hickory Tree, Roan Mountain, and parts of North Carolina and Southwest Virginia.
JS included several stories by other folks in the area like Art Salyer, Henry Jenkins, Pete Dykes, and Helen Blalock.
Rooting Branches is an exploration into the past in order to understand the present and the future. This third book returns to the style of Understanding Apples in that all of the stories are more personal to the author as he seeks to draw out the branches of his own family tree.
There is an open invitation in the Understanding Apples series of books for people wishing to tell a story to contact the author and he may include it in his next book.
Understanding Apples, Gathering Leaves, and Rooting Branches are available anywhere books are sold. Signed copies are available in Kingsport only at:
